🧂 Gather Your Ingredients

- pretzels - I prefer to use pretzel snaps because they hold the candy melts well.
- candy melts - I use red, white, and blue candy melts for a patriotic color palette.
- patriotic M&Ms - this special M&M color blend should be available during the summer months in the candy aisle.

Prepare Pretzels
Arrange the pretzels in a single layer on a parchment lined baking sheet.

Add Candy Melts
Add a candy melt on top of each pretzel. Bake for 5 minutes at 200 degrees or until the candy melts are melted.

Add M&Ms
Place an M&M on top of each candy melt and push down gently. Let sit for 30 minutes or until set.
💡 Expert Tips and Tricks
- The candy melts might not look all that different after being in the oven, so give them a gentle touch to see if they've melted.
- Conversely, if the candy melts crack when you add the M&Ms, they might need another minute or two in the oven.
- Your candy melts might vary in size depending on the brand, so check how large they are before purchasing if possible.
❔ FAQs
If you prefer the flavor of actual white chocolate or other chocolate candies, they can be substituted. Candy melts are typically easier to work with when it comes to melting which is why they were chosen for this recipe!
You can try breaking the pretzel sticks in half and arranging them a couple across so they're wide enough to accommodate the candy melts, but I've found that square pretzels are generally easiest to work with.
Use some star shaped or red white and blue sprinkles to add extra flair to the edges of the melted candy melts before they set.

📝 Substitutions and Variations
- Feel free to switch up the colors of the candy melts and M&Ms to match other holidays, team sports occasions, and more!
- Peanut butter M&Ms or other mini candies can also be used if you prefer.
- Drizzle with some melted white chocolate for an extra special presentation.
Kristin's Kitchen Tip
Use a different colored M&M than every candy melt for some color variation!
🥡 Storage
Store your patriotic pretzels in an airtight container in a cool dry place for up to a week or so.
I don't recommend refrigerating or freezing, as the cold can affect the pretzels and the candy coating.

Notes

- If the candy melts crack when pressing in the M&Ms, they likely need another minute in the oven or the candy melts may be older.
- Candy melt sizes can vary slightly by brand, but they should still fit nicely on pretzel snaps.
Variations:
- Swap the red, white, and blue candies for other color combinations to match different holidays or events.
- You can use peanut butter M&Ms or mini candies if preferred.
- Drizzle with melted white chocolate after setting for an extra decorative touch.
Serving Suggestions:
- Add to dessert trays, snack boards, or treat bags.
- Great for kids to help assemble since the decorating is simple and fun.
Storage:
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week.
- Do not refrigerate or freeze, since moisture can affect the texture of the pretzels and candy coating.
