👩🏻🍳 Why You'll Love This Recipe
I love green beans, they go with everything like this Dutch Oven Chicken or Slow Cooker Honey Chipotle Chicken. They can be jazzed up with some extra toppings or you can keep them simple to not overwhelm the main dish.
They are packed with healthy goodness and I just love how you can get them on the table fast. How fast? Well with an air fryer, you can make them in under 10 minutes! Even better, it's a hands-off recipe so you can focus on making your main entree thanks to the air fryer. Air frying is definitely an easy way to cook your side dish and even better, you can crisp up these green beans without needing a ton of oil.
🥘 Ingredients Needed
For a complete list of ingredients, please refer to the recipe card at the bottom of this post.
- green beans - they're also known as French beans or string beans. Packed with nutrients, this makes for a healthy and delicious side dish.
- olive oil - a little oil goes a long way to cook up these green beans.
- salt - all you need is a pinch of salt to help bring out the flavor. The green beans don't need a lot to taste good.
🔪 Instructions
Please note: This is an overview of the instructions. You'll find the complete instructions in the recipe card at the bottom of this post.
- Wash and dry the green beans, and line them up.
- Remove the tops of the green beans.
- Remove the bottoms of the green beans.
- Toss the green beans with olive oil and some salt.
- Air fry the green beans at 375F for 7 to 8 minutes. Shaking the basket at the halfway mark.
- Let cool before serving. Add more salt if needed.
👪 FAQs
The stem end of the green beans tend to be tough so it's best to remove it. The tapered tail end if fine but it's faster to trim both sides than trim the ends of the green beans one at a time or to organize them one at a time to have the ends all on one side. If you've got the time, you are welcomed to do so!
While I haven't tested that, you can in theory use frozen green beans. I would put them in straight from frozen and add a couple of minutes to the cooking time.
You can use any variety of green beans you'd like, just make sure they are bright green and unblemished. If you're using a different variety that comes in a different color (they also come in yellow and purple), you can just check for blemishes instead.
Want something a little different? Instead of air frying your green beans, try sauteing them with this recipe brown sugar green beans. They have so much flavor and make a tasty, unique side dish.
🧊 Storage
Leftover air fryer green beans can be stored in an airtight container for up to 5 days.
To reheat them, I recommend adding them back into the air fryer and air fryer at 350F for 2 to 3 minutes.
💭 Helpful Tips
- To help the green beans cook evenly, I trim the green beans in a bunch so they're the same size.
- Be sure the green beans are fully dry before using them. If there is moisture, the olive oil and salt won't stick and the green beans will steam in the air fryer instead of crisping up.
- Avoid adding too much oil to the green beans as it will prevent them from crisping up. A little bit of oil goes a long way.
- Avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket. If you have a smaller air fryer model, you may need to air fry in two batches.
- You can easily double the recipe, you will need to air fry in batches as you don't want to overcrowd the air fryer basket.
📖 Variations
- Make this spicier by tossing in some cayenne pepper or red chili flakes.
- Add citrus flavor to it by finishing it off with a squeeze of fresh lemon or lime and some lemon/lime zest.
- Make it cheesy by topping it off with some shredded cheese or grated parmesan cheese.
