👩🏻🍳 Why You'll Love This Recipe
Whenever I'm in need of a quick side dish, I always make this crispy air fryer brussels sprouts and bacon recipe! It takes less than 20 minutes to put together and is hands-free so you can use that time to make your main dish.
Cooking brussels sprouts in the air fryer is going to be your new favorite way to make a quick side dish. It comes out so crispy without having to roast for ages in the oven.
Trust me, you'll want to make this air fried brussels sprouts recipe. It goes with everything! I especially love serving it with my Chicken Meatloaf and Broccoli Cheddar Mac and Cheese.
It's also very easy to customize so you can make this brussels sprouts recipe over and over again without getting bored. Down below I have some examples on how to change things up!
🥘 Ingredients Needed
- brussels sprouts - try to buy brussels sprouts that are similar in size so they air fry evenly. You'll have to trim them beforehand by cutting off the bottom of the sprout before cutting them in half.
- olive oil - you can also use avocado oil if you prefer.
- seasoning - I season the brussels sprouts with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
- bacon - I LOVE adding bacon to the brussels sprouts as it adds some smoky flavour to them. However, if you want to keep this vegetarian friendly, you can skip it. I use thick cut bacon.
🔪 Instructions
- Add the halved brussels sprouts to a large bowl with oil.
- Add the seasoning to the sprouts and toss until evenly coated.
- Add the bacon to the brussels sprouts, if using.
- Toss well.
- Add the sprouts to your air fryer basket in a single layer. I had to cook in two batches.
- Air fry for 10 to 12 minutes, tossing half way through.
👪 FAQs
I'm using an XXL Philips air fryer. This one doesn't require any preheating. If your model requires preheating, do so.
I don't recommend using frozen sprouts for this recipe. You'll need to increase the air frying time and the bacon will overcook.
Nope! Since the brussels sprouts are coated in oil and the bacon releases oil, you can skip spraying oil into the air fryer basket.
💭 Expert Tips and Tricks
- Avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket because they will steam instead of crisp up.
- Don’t forget to shake the basket while cooking as it helps the brussels sprouts cook more evenly.
- Cooking times will definitely vary depending on the size of brussels sprouts.
📖 Substitutions and Variations
- Skip the bacon to make this vegetarian.
- Add a tablespoon of maple syrup to make the sprouts sweeter. It will caramelize more with the syrup. Honey is great as well.
- Top with some shaved parmesan for extra flavour.
🥫 Storage and Reheating
Always allow the brussels sprouts to cool before storing. If they are warm, it will cause them to become soggy in the container in the fridge. Reheat them in the air fryer instead of the microwave for the crispiest results. They last for up to 4 days in the fridge.
⏲️ Make Ahead Instructions
Simply air fry the brussels sprouts ahead of time and store them in the fridge until ready to eat. Reheat the brussels sprouts in the air fryer to crisp them back up.
