👩🏻‍🍳 Why You'll Love This Recipe

I love making chicken wings in the air fryer! They're quick, easy, and delicious. The skin is crispy and flavorful, the meat is juicy and moist, and clean up is easy as the air fryer can go in the dishwasher!

While an air fryer can't make as many wings at once compared to an oven, it just means the recipe is perfect for small batch wings. This recipe is perfect for 3 to 4 servings and you can easily scale up or down.

Another reason they're great is that whenever game day comes around, I make them in the air fryer so I can have batches being cooked up throughout the game, ensuring that there is always a fresh batch of wings on the table.

If you want to make these for game day, you should totally try making Twisted Bacon or Air Fryer Frozen Onion Rings to serve with the wings as they're the perfect finger food combo.

Or check out these Air Fryer Taquitos with Bacon for a crispy, crunchy, addictive snack - you can never go wrong with bacon!

    🥘 Ingredients Needed

Ingredients needed to make air fryer chicken wings.

For a complete list of ingredients, please refer to the recipe card at the bottom of this post.

    • chicken wings - feel free to do a mix of wingettes, drumettes, or exclusively one or the other. It's up to you.
    • seasoning - I season the air fryer chicken wings with salt, pepper, paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder.
    • oil - while I use olive oil, you can use any oil of your choice such as avocado oil, canola oil, etc.
    • non-stick spray - to keep the wings from sticking to the basket.

Please note: This is an overview of the instructions. You'll find the complete instructions in the recipe card at the bottom of this post.

    1. Mix together the salt, pepper, paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder.
    2. If your chicken wings have moisture on them, pat them dry. Add the wings to a bag or large container and add the olive oil and seasoning to them and shake to coat the wings.
    3. Spray the air fryer basket with non-stick. Add the wings to the air fryer basket in a single layer.
    4. Air fry the chicken wings for 400F for 20 minutes, flipping them over at the halfway mark. When done, transfer to a serving platter and enjoy!

    👪 FAQs

Can I make this in advance?

You can definitely season the chicken wings in advance and let the wings marinate in them in the fridge for 1 to 2 days beforehand. You can also make the wings beforehand and reheat them on the day of. You can reheat the wings in the air fryer for the best results.

Can you air fry wings with sauce on them?

I prefer coating the wings in a sauce after air frying them. I find that coating the wings with a sauce and then air frying them will lead to sauce burning and make clean up much more difficult.

How many wings can fit in an air fryer?

Depending on the size of your wings and air fryer, you should be able to comfortable fit 10 to 12 wings.

    🧊 Storage

The best way to store leftover chicken wings is in an airtight container in the fridge. They'll last for 3 to 4 days in the fridge. Be sure to reheat them all the way through, either in the microwave, oven, or air fryer.

To freeze cooked chicken wings, freeze the wings for 2 to 3 hours on a lined baking sheet before transferring them to a freezer safe container or bag. This keeps the wings from freezing stuck together.

You can freeze the wings for up to 3 months. Thaw the wings in the fridge overnight before reheating.

    💭 Helpful Tips

    • Feel free to coat the chicken wings in a sauce of your choice before serving.
    • I recommend patting the chicken wings dry before coating them with oil and seasoning as it helps the seasoning and oil stick better to the wings.
    • Chicken wings are done when their internal temperature reaches 165 °F.
    • It's fine if your wings are touching when you place them into the basket as they'll shrink as they cook.
    • Chicken wings can be expensive, so for a more budget-friendly air fryer chicken recipe, try these Air Fryer Chicken Quarters.

    • Coat the cooked wings in freshly grated parmesan and some garlic powder.

    • Use Cajun seasoning instead.
    • Coat the cooked wings with honey garlic sauce.
