- yogurt sauce - I made my homemade yogurt sauce with lemon juice, olive oil, oregano, salt and pepper, and of course Greek yogurt!
- chicken breasts - a lean and healthy base for the pita.
- onion - adds a subtle sweetness and depth of flavor.
- garlic - I prefer to use fresh garlic for the best flavor, but feel free to use jarred minced garlic or even garlic paste if it's easier.
- pita bread - has a soft yet slightly chewy texture and holds everything together.
- fresh cilantro - adds a fresh flavor that enhances the overall brightness to the pita.

In a small bowl, combine all of the ingredients for your yogurt sauce and set aside.
Cook Chicken
Heat oil in a large skillet and add pieces of chicken. Cook 5 to 6 minutes per side and remove from the pan.
Cook Onions
In the same skillet, add sliced onion and garlic and cook until softened.
Spread Sauce
To each pita, spread a spoonful of the yogurt sauce.
Assemble Chicken Pitas
Add cooked chicken and onions to your pitas, then garnish with chopped cilantro if desired.

One your chicken and onions have cooled, transfer to an airtight container and keep in the fridge for up to 3 days. You can also refrigerate the yogurt sauce separately. The chicken and onions can be frozen for several months, but the yogurt sauce won't do well in the freezer.
To reheat, return the chicken and onions to a pan over medium heat or zap them in the microwave. From frozen, let them thaw in the fridge beforehand.

Chicken Pitas With Homemade Yogurt Sauce
Ingredients
For the light yogurt sauce:
- 1 cup Greek yogurt
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- Salt and pepper to taste
For the pitas:
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 2 chicken breasts, thinly sliced
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 onion, thinly sliced
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 4 pita breads
- Cilantro, chopped (optional)
Instructions
- In a small bowl, mix together all the ingredients for the yogurt sauce. Set aside.1 cup Greek yogurt, 1 tablespoon lemon juice, 1 tablespoon olive oil, 1 teaspoon dried oregano, Salt and pepper to taste
- Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced chicken breasts and cook until they are browned and cooked through, about 5-6 minutes per side. Season with salt and pepper to taste.1 tablespoon olive oil, 2 chicken breasts, thinly sliced, Salt and pepper to taste
- Remove the cooked chicken from the skillet and set aside on a plate lined with paper towels. In the same skillet, add the sliced onion and minced garlic. Cook until the onions are soft and translucent, about 3-4 minutes.1 onion, thinly sliced, 2 garlic cloves, minced
- Warm the pita breads in a toaster or oven until they are soft and pliable.4 pita breads
