❔ FAQs
Yes, as long as the chicken is fully cooked it's perfectly safe to cook chicken and rice in the same pot! Chicken is fully cooked when the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees F.
Because of the bold flavors of this dish, white rice is an excellent option to soak up all of the complex ingredients and seasonings. Be aware that cooking time will vary if another type of rice is used. Brown rice, for example, will take longer to cook.
This is a fairly healthy dish thanks to the protein in chicken and the carbohydrates in rice, both of which are crucial macronutrients to fuel the body. Serve with a veggie on the side for a full and round meal!
💭 Expert Tips and Tricks
- Be sure to use a pot or skillet that's at least 2 inches deep and has a lid that will fit well. You want to trap moisture inside to keep the chicken from drying out.
- If you're pressed for time, skip searing the chicken. Be aware that the chicken may end up a bit drier, as you won't have the seared layer to trap moisture.
- Taste your soy sauce mixture before adding to the broth to ensure you're happy with the flavors.
📌 You'll love this easy and super flavorful one skillet chicken and rice! With bold ingredients like chili garlic sauce, this dish is a mouthwateringly easy recipe to make for a quick and easy weeknight dinner!
💡 Substitutions and Variations
- Water can be used instead of broth, though the result will be a slightly less flavorful dish.
- Instead of soy sauce, use coconut aminos.
- Olive oil can be substituted for canola or avocado oil.
- Feel free to edit the proportions of spices and flavorings to your preference.
- Much of the flavor of this dish comes from the chili garlic sauce, so I don't recommend leaving it out. If you want a substitution, use something like sriracha.
🥫 Storage and Reheating
Keep your leftover garlic chicken with rice in an airtight container in the fridge and eat within 3 or 4 days. Leftovers can also be frozen for a few months at a time.
To reheat, portion out your chicken and rice onto microwave-safe plates or bowls and microwave until heated through. From frozen, I recommend letting your chicken thaw in the fridge before heating.
