👩🏻‍🍳 Curry Pizza Recipe Back Story

Pizza night! Pizza night! Yippee! I love pizza night. We have pizza every Friday night, because the family loves it, and it is one less meal for me to try to figure out every week.

When I sit down to plan the upcoming meals, I just slap PIZZA under the 'Friday' heading right off. Woohoo! One done, only six more to go! 😀

We used to order out for pizza night, but with the pandemic.... I discovered the magic of making it at home with a little help from store-bought pizza shells or frozen pizza dough, and store-bought pizza sauce.

Yes, I know you can make both of these things yourself and they taste better, but the store-bought stuff tastes pretty good too, and I can roll out the dough and prepare the pizza in just about the same amount of time it takes me to order delivery or take-out. And it still saves us a ton of money compared to ordering out!

Every once in a while, I like to get creative with the pizzas and try something a little different. For this curry pizza, I decided to give it a little Indian flair. I had some naan in the house, and thought it would make great little individual pizza crusts, just like other versions of flatbread.

If you love the flavor of curry, I also recommend trying this Vegan Chickpea Curry for a yummy and nutritious one-pot meal!

The great thing to this approach is that the kids can decline to try my little pizza experiment if they are not feeling adventurous, so it works out well for families because each little pizza can be customized.

    🥘 Ingredients Needed

Overhead shot of ingredients- naan or flatbread, curry powder, shredded mozzarella, pizza sauce, broccoli, cauliflower, and onion.
These simple ingredients will create a simple and amazing meal!

For a complete list of ingredients, please refer to the recipe card at the bottom of this post.

    • broccoli and cauliflower florets, onion - after all, this is a veggie pizza!
    • prepared pizza sauce - store-bought works just fine here.
    • curry powder - the combination of spices in the curry, really compliments the vegetables.
    • large naan, flatbreads, or pizza crust - you'll want about 14-16 ounces total bread.
    • shredded mozzarella cheese - for loads of cheesy deliciousness!

    🔪 Instructions

Six panel grid of process shots- mixing together ingredients, forming pizzas, and cooking the pizzas.
These six simple steps are all it takes to make this delicious curry pizza!

Please note: This is an overview of the instructions. You'll find the complete instructions in the recipe card at the bottom of this post.

    1. Preheat the oven. Combine the broccoli, cauliflower, and onion and microwave on high for 2 minutes to soften, drain any liquid.
    2. Add the curry powder to the vegetables and toss to combine. Set aside.
    3. Next combine the pizza sauce and remaining curry powder.
    4. Place the naan (or flatbread or pizza crust) on a baking sheet or pizza stone. Spread with sauce, top with vegetables and sprinkle with cheese.
    5. Bake until crust is baked and cheese is hot and bubbly.

    👪 FAQs

    What is a curry pizza?

Curry pizza is the Indian version of your favorite pie! My shortcut version is packed with flavor, but easy to make!

    What is Indian curry powder?

Most combine a variety of spices including turmeric, cumin, chili powders and coriander. It's a flavorful combination and adds so much to this recipe!

Which one do I buy: yellow, red or green?

Although all three powders can be spicy hot, generally green is the mildest, red the hottest, with the yellow somewhere in-between. Choose the level of heat that's best for your family!

With less than ten minutes of prep time, this curry pizza recipe is super simple!

    💭 Top Tips

    • If you're using naan or tortillas you really just need to cook the pizza until the cheese is melted since the vegetables and "crust" is already cooked. If you're sub'ing in a raw dough for the crust, cook until it's golden brown.
    • Don't be afraid to really customize your pie! There are so many different options and it's super fun for everyone to have their own. Involve the kids in making theirs and you just might have clean plates at the end of the meal!

    📖 Variations

You can try this with whatever veggies you have handy. I used onion, cauliflower, and broccoli this time. Next time I am going to try with some eggplant and maybe spinach and/or mushrooms. The possibilities are endless! I love to eat my veggies this way!

There are a variety of choices for the crust - traditional pizza dough, tortillas and naan bread. A great low carb option would be a cauliflower crust.

If you want to make a meat filled version of this pizza, keep the veggies and just add in chicken tikka masala - that would be a wonderful combination!

Every good pizza deserves a beer (of course!) for those of us adulting, with soda of course for the kids. A crunchy, flavorful green salad is always super yummy. Other great options to serve with your curry pizza are:

    Buffalo Blue Cheese Potato Bites
Crispy and delicious shredded potato bites with the flavors of buffalo hot wings baked right in!

    Oven Fried Crispy Green Beans
Crunchy, addictive, AND healthy? It's true - you need to try these crispy green beans!

    Turmeric Hummus (Without Tahini)
Not only is this turmeric hummus easy to make and tasty, it's also packed with cancer-fighting ingredients!

    • 1 cup chopped onion
    • 1 cup prepared pizza sauce

    Instructions

    • Preheat oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C).
    • In a medium microwave-safe bowl, combine the broccoli, cauliflower, and onion and microwave on high for 2 minutes to soften. Drain any liquid.
1 cup chopped broccoli florets, 1 cup chopped cauliflower florets, 1 cup chopped onion
    • Add the 2 teaspoons of curry powder to the bowl and toss. Set aside.
1 tablespoon curry powder, plus 2 teaspoons
    • In a small bowl, combine the pizza sauce and the tablespoon of curry powder.
      1 cup prepared pizza sauce
    • Place the naan (or flatbread or pizza crust) on a baking sheet or pizza pan. Spread the sauce over the bread. Then top with the softened vegetables.
2 or 3 large naan, or 2 flatbreads, or 1 large pizza crust
    • Sprinkle the cheese on top.
      2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
    • Bake for 8-12 minutes, until cheese is melted and bubbly.

    Notes

    • You'll mostly be cooking these pizzas to melt the cheese if you're using naan or tortillas, but if you do use a raw dough, ensure that you cook until nice and golden brown.
    • These individual pies are great to customize, and a great opportunity to get the kids in the kitchen and get them to help out!

Thanks for the recipe - I like that it is a little different than the traditional pizza with the addition of the curry. Maybe even do a naan crust and mini pizzas?!?
