💡 Expert Tips and Tricks
- Buy pre-sliced apples for easier prep. This is also great if you want your kids to be able to make this themselves without worrying about sharp knives!
- Top with a dollop of whipped cream, whipped topping, or vanilla yogurt, or use this apple pie snack as a topping for vanilla ice cream.
- Microwave the apples in 20 to 30 second increments and stir them well in between.
❔ FAQs
Some popular apple varieties for apple pie are Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, Golden Delicious, Braeburn, or Pink Lady.
Most storebought apple pie spice includes cinnamon as the base with some nutmeg and allspice, and many varieties also add ginger or cardamom. Feel free to make your own spice blend and adjust to taste!
📝 Substitutions and Variations
- The graham cracker topping is optional--the apples are plenty tasty all on their own!
- For more cinnamon flavor, use cinnamon graham crackers.
- Other topping ideas include granola, crumbled shortbread cookies, oats, dried cranberries or raisins, chopped pecans or walnuts, or a dusting of powdered sugar.
- Add a drizzle of salted caramel sauce for an even more indulgent treat.
Kristin’s Kitchen Tip
There's no need to peel the apples for this recipe, which cuts down on prep time! Feel free to remove the skins if you prefer, but I like to leave them on for some extra fiber.
🥡 Storage and Reheating
If you have leftover apples, place them in an airtight container and store in the fridge for 5 days or so. Then you can transfer to a microwave safe dish whenever you're craving this apple pie snack!
