Brighten your day with this delicious and healthy Pineapple Orange Smoothie recipe, great for breakfast, after school snacks, or anytime. Kids love the taste of orange juice and pineapple blended together. This low carb smoothie recipe is also the perfect drink to serve for an elegant brunch!
Is there anything better than a cold, sweet citrus smoothie on a hot summer day? The tangy and creamy drink is super refreshing and so easy to make, with only 4 ingredients.
Orange smoothies are very popular in my home, and not just in the summer. Since these smoothies have a huge amount of Vitamin C, I find myself making them at the slightest hint of a cold or sore throat, which means I make them year round! Another recipe that's got a lot of vitamin C is this Copycat Chick-fil-A Frosted Lemonade.

It's amazing what this smoothie can do for the the kids when they are feeling run-down. All the anti-oxidants and vitamins in this pineapple smoothie are so uplifting.
If you can make freshly squeezed orange juice, use that for this recipe as it will give you the best taste. However, store bought juice will work too. If there is any extra orange juice left over, how about using it in a sweet orange glaze recipe for a delicious homemade baked donut recipe.

I always have pineapple in the house. Its one of those ingredients that I use weekly. My slow cooker pineapple chicken and my slow cooker pineapple beef teriyaki are recipes that I make often, which means I have pineapples left over. I will freeze them just to make this pineapple smoothie.
On Sunday mornings, I often make my pina colada pancakes, which calls for even more pineapple. The leftover pineapple often goes into making this pineapple smoothie later in the afternoon.
You should be able to find frozen fresh pineapple chunks at most large grocery stores, which makes this recipe super-easy and fast.
If not, you can buy fresh pineapple chunks (or even a whole pineapple and then cut it yourself) and stick them in the freezer overnight before making this recipe.
I really enjoy smoothies with orange juice, and really any citrus-based smoothies, particularly my apple cider smoothie that was crafted around fall flavors (find it here --> Apple Cider Smoothie).
Of course, just because the ingredients in that smoothie are more reminiscent of autumn doesn't mean I can't enjoy it year round, but I am definitely in the mood for something a little brighter and lighter now that we are headed into spring!
Smoothies with orange juice are just perfect for breakfast or brunch, but also for a pick-me-up later in the day. My kids love how the orange juice and pineapple flavors blend together to make this creamy, light, sweet drink. And the yogurt adds protein to keep them filled up for longer than if they just drank a glass of orange juice.

How To Make A Pineapple Smoothie
Gather your ingredients:
- pineapple chunks - frozen pineapple chunks are the easiest to use, but you can buy fresh and then freeze them before using in this recipe. Canned pineapple chunks will work but won't give you the best flavor. I drain them before placing them in a container to freeze them.
- orange juice - the other star ingredient of this citrus smoothie recipe, the orange juice provides sweetness and that nice orange hue!
- vanilla extract - balances out the sweetness from the fruit.
- vanilla Greek yogurt - makes the orange smoothie creamy and rich. You can definitely use plain yogurt if you don't have vanilla.

Helpful Tips
- Buy good quality orange juice for this orange juice smoothie. Don't use an orange drink that is mostly sugar and artificial flavors. If you are feeling ambitious, squeeze your own orange juice!
- You don't necessarily have to buy a whole pineapple if you want to use fresh pineapple chunks. I usually am able to buy a container of pre-cut fresh pineapple chunks at the grocery store. Just remember to put them in the freezer at least several hours before you want to make your smoothie!
- You can change this up by using an orange juice blend or a different fruit juice, or adding strawberries or blueberries. Tossing in a small handful of a frozen berry mix is delicious!
- Add some ice to make your smoothie thicker or, if you want to avoid diluting the flavors, throw in some additional frozen fruit when blending your smoothie.
- If you have some leftover, you can store it in the fridge for up to 3 days or the freezer for up to 3 months. When ready to serve, if the smoothie has become too thin, toss it in the blender with a couple more pieces of frozen fruit and that will freshen it up!

Interested in an orange juice smoothie bowl?
- Make your orange juice smoothie thicker by freezing some of the orange juice in a ice cube tray prior to blending. Alternatively, you can use some extra frozen fruit.
- Transfer the smoothie from the blender into a bowl.
- Top with some granola, your favorite cereal, chopped nuts, sliced banana or strawberries, or even a few dollops of Nutella. (Drooling on my keyboard!) How about whipped cream? That would work too!

For the Smoothie
- 1 cup pineapple chunks frozen
- 1 cup orange juice
- ½ cup vanilla Greek yogurt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For Garnish (optional)
- orange segments
- fresh mint
Instructions

- Blend until smooth.
- Pour into 2 glasses. Serve garnished with orange segments and fresh mint (optional).orange segments, fresh mint
Notes
- If using fresh pineapple, cut it into chunks and freeze them ahead of time. This makes the smoothie cold and refreshing without needing extra ice.
- Canned pineapple chunks are not recommended, but if you need to use them, make sure to drain the liquid from the can before freezing the chunks.
- Use good quality, real orange juice. (Not orange flavored drinks!)
- Substitute plain yogurt if you don't have vanilla. Alternatively, you can use another flavor of yogurt that blends well with citrus flavors.
- To make your smoothie thinner, add more orange juice. To make it thicker, add more frozen pineapple chunks, or you can add ice.
- Use other types of juices and/or frozen fruit to make different flavors of smoothies!
- Time saving tip: Assemble smoothie packs with the frozen pineapple chunks and measured yogurt in advance. Store them in the freezer and simply add orange juice when you're ready to blend.
- Add a splash of lime or lemon juice for extra zing.
- Include other tropical fruits like mango or banana for added flavor and nutrition.
- Add a handful of spinach or kale for a nutrient boost.
- Add a scoop of vanilla protein powder to make the smoothie more filling.
- Replace half the orange juice with coconut water for a tropical twist.
- Sprinkle in a little ground ginger or turmeric for added health benefits and a hint of spice.

Oh my gosh. Thank you so much for posting a smoothie recipe that doesn't have banana in it! I love smoothies, but am allergic to bananas. It is SO difficult to find recipes that don't include banana in them. Plus, I'm a bit obsessed with citrus right now, so I will definitely be trying this out very soon! Thanks for sharing!
