🥘 Ingredients Needed
- butter - I use unsalted so the cookies aren't overly salty.
- sesame paste - gives these cookies a distinctive sesame flavor.
- sugar - helps balance out the saltiness from the pretzels.
- flour
- pretzels - add a nice crunch and provide the salt to the sweet and salty!
- sesame seeds - you'll use these in the cookies and also to sprinkle over top if you like!
🔪 Instructions
- Mix together butter, sesame paste, and sugar.
- Add flour.
- Stir until a dough forms.
- Add pretzels and sesame seeds.
- Mix until combined.
- Scoop the dough into 1 inch balls, sprinkle with additional sesame seeds, and bake at 275 degrees F for 30 to 35 minutes.
👪 FAQs
Mini pretzels or pretzel sticks work best, as they're the easiest to crush into pieces small enough to work into the dough.
Absolutely! Place them in an airtight plastic container or bag and store them in the freezer for up to 3 months. These sesame cookies freeze really well so they're great to make in large batches!
When you're storing them, make sure to let them cool all the way before putting them away. A good way to keep cookies from drying out is also to put a small piece of bread in the container with them.

Hi, is the Simply Sesame Spread the same thing as tahini? I can't get the Simply Sesame Spread but have tahini in my fridge and would like to try these 🙂 Cheers
Kristin says
Hi Alli, Simply Sesame is not quite the same as tahini. You can check out the ingredients for Simply Sesame here: http://www.simplysesame.com/products.html. It looks like Simply Sesame is probably sweeter, so if you want to try these cookies with the tahini, they may not turn out quite as sweet, but I bet they will still be good!
ROBIN says
I i used Tahini. I didn't realize they were not the same ingredient. However I added about a TBLS light brown sugar with the sugar and they were great!
